Understanding Community Needs
To reimagine where SunLine is going, we first had to understand where we stand today. Phase 1 was all about gathering data, listening to your needs, and analyzing how the Valley moves.
Existing Conditions Analysis
Working with Jarrett Walker + Associates, we analyzed SunLine's service alongside demographic and land use data to understand how current conditions shape transit outcomes across the Valley.
The result is our Existing Conditions Report — showing where service runs, who it serves, and what trade-offs lie ahead.
Engagement
Phase 1 was defined by a series of events, centered around our first community survey.
From December 2025 through March 2026, we asked the Valley how people travel and what they need most. Over 1,900 responses came back — from current riders and non-riders alike — covering travel patterns, priorities, and the Ridership-versus-Coverage question central to this process.
