SunLine Travel Training Program
Gain the confidence to ride SunLine’s buses independently with our free, personalized Travel Training Program.
What is Travel Training?
SunLine Transit Agency offers one-on-one Travel Training to help individuals learn how to safely and successfully use our fixed route bus service, SunBus. The training is tailored to each participant’s needs and can be provided as a presentation and/or can take place in a real-world setting, on a bus route in the Coachella Valley - right in your community.
The Travel Training Program is provided at no cost to interested persons, and participation in the program is strictly voluntary. The goal is to increase customers’ capabilities and flexibility of traveling around the Coachella Valley and to promote independence.

Who Can Participate?
Our program is open to:
- Seniors
- Individuals with disabilities
- Residents of group homes or senior centers
- Residents or visitors in the Coachella Valley
- Anyone interested in learning how to ride the bus
Participation is free and voluntary.
What Will You Learn?
During your Travel Training, a SunLine mobility trainer will guide you through:
- Planning a bus trip using the SunLine bus schedule
- Understanding how to use our online planning tools and apps
- Reading route maps and schedules
- Safely walking to and from the bus stop
- Boarding, riding, and exiting the bus
- How to pay your fare
- Transferring between buses
- Street crossing safety
- Being safe and aware at bus stops, transit hubs and on buses
- Communicating your needs to the driver
- Following transit etiquette
- What to do in case of an emergency
You will also receive helpful resources, like our rider’s guide with bus maps and schedules, to keep for future reference.
