What do I need to apply for a Taxicab Permit?
- Current California Driver's License
- Clean DMV record
- Reach out to one of the local permitted Taxicab Businesses to fill out a driver application form
- Complete a LiveScan fingerprint based background check. Arranged by the Taxi Business you will be driving under
- Complete Drug and Alcohol Test. Arranged by the Taxi Business you will be driving under
- Complete Taxi Business Safety and Disabled Access Education Program.
- "Intent to Hire." Provided to you by the Taxi Business you will be driving under
- New Driver Application Fee paid to SunLine
- Signed permit. Done in-person at SunLine
Once the taxicab driver permitting process has been successfully completed, you will receive your taxicab driver permit.
Please note that the result from the drug testing facility and the Department of Justice can take up to 10 business days to process.
DRIVER'S RIGHTS
The Driver has the right to request of the passenger the following:
- No smoking.
- Wear your seatbelt.
- Board the taxicab only from the curb side of the taxicab or the wheelchair accessible ramp.
- Payment for fare must be made by cash or credit card, when boarding or at your destination.
- If you dispute arises, calmly discuss it with your passenger or request to speak to your dispatcher/manager. You may also file a complaint with SRA, 760-797-8860.
