JOB DESCRIPTION:  Under general direction and supervision of the Maintenance Director, successful candidate performs visual inspection to include obvious damage; worn flat tires, broken windows or doors, mirrors, or destination signs. Replaces alternators, generators, starters; inspects and replaces radiators, heaters, windshield wipers, motors and hoses. Candidate must be able to work with little or no supervision and be able to work all assigned shifts. This candidate will serve as an inspector and trouble shooter to determine proper corrective maintenance procedures prior to attempting repairs. Candidate needs to be skilled and perform scheduled preventative maintenance, diagnostics evaluations and maintain the fleet to meet and exceed DOT and CHP regulations. Candidate must also have extensive knowledge in repairs, electrical, engine, transmission, air conditioning system, and other various components. Work with CNG is desirable. Must be able to lift 50 to 75 lbs.  Must provide basic tools necessary to perform basic functions of position and be familiar with safe use of such tools.

Must be familiar with the safe operation of machines and equipment which they are authorized and trained to use.  Examples of equipment and machines are welding, lifts and paint sprayers.

Must use protective safety equipment in conjunction with designated activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  High School/GED required. Three to five years directly related experience.  Applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a California Commercial “Class B” Driver’s License and Air Brake Certification. Candidate must have own tools.

An H-6 DMV printout must be submitted with application for further consideration.

Upon a conditional job offer, candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, complete physical assessment exam and, an extensive background check.

SunLine has the responsibility to provide the best qualified Bus Operators and Mechanics to our riding public. Therefore, if you have any of the following violations on your current driving record you will be disqualified from consideration as a SunLine Operator at this time.

  1. Any Failure to Appear.
  2. Any Suspended License.
  3. Driving while under the influence of alcohol/drugs.
  4. Negligent, careless or reckless driving.
  5. More than three moving violations in the previous three years.
  6. All accidents will be reviewed on an individual basis and may be cause for disqualification.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  2. Must be 21 years of age or older.
  3. Must have an acceptable driving record.
  4. Must possess valid California license at time of application.
  5. Must possess or have ability to obtain a valid Class B California drivers license.

    • passenger endorsement (does not apply to Mechanics)
  6. Must satisfactorily pass all applicable examinations including physical, drug and alcohol.
  7. IF HIRED, documentation verifying your identity and authorization to work in the United States will be required.

A COPY OF APPLICANT’S DRIVING RECORD (H6) FROM THE DMV MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH APPLICATION.  IF APPLICANT HAS RESIDED IN CALIFORNIA LESS THAN THREE YEARS, A COPY OF THE APPLICANT’S DRIVING RECORD FROM PREVIOUS STATE OF RESIDENCE MUST BE SUBMITTED IN ADDITION TO CALIFORNIA RECORD.
